Space Audit Presentation by Third Way Consultant, David Vinjamuri
1
1.1 Mr. Vinjamuri provided an overview of his background as a professor at NYU, his
experience in and out of libraries, and introduced his work as a library space
consultant.
1.2 Mr. Vinjamuri presented his findings during the space audit he performed on
January 30 and 31. The recommendations seek to leverage existing space and
infrastructure while providing a higher quality user experience and more effective library
operations. Key recommendations include: truncating larger service desks, enlarging
the Children’s area, adding a corridor to the Main Hall programming space, moving the
Teen Room and collections to the second floor, implementing marketplace displays to
increase circulation, using compact shelving for non-fiction storage, dedicating a
lower-level space for unhoused services, adding a new meeting room to the main level,
creating a work zone on the second floor, and relocating Archives services to the lower
level so department functions are congruently configured. The full report will be shared
with the Board.
Library Bereavement Policy

2.1 Following the Board’s recommendation to re-work the City Bereavement Policy, a
new draft policy was presented that addressed concerns voiced last month.
Future Meeting Recommendation:
Members of the Board requested a report reviewing the impact of having Talon Security onsite
from December 19-March 19, particularly from the perspective of library staff. A report will be
provided at the May Committee of the Whole meeting.
