Title
Action to formally support Public Library banner project & annual artist contest - Kelly Krieg-Sigman
Body
The Library Director is reequesting formal support from the Arts Board for a banner project and an annual artist contest. The Library is less than $2,000 away from its goal to hang "Libraries are for Everyone" banners, and is aiming for a grand unveiling on Monday, April 9 as part of our National Library Week celebration.
In following years, the Library & partners would sponsor an annual artists’ contest with a cash prize. The challenge would be to create a piece of visual art that communicates or represents some aspect of learning, literacy, reading and/or social justice. The winner’s work would be reproduced on a banner and replace one of the existing banners for a year.
A computerized mockup of the banners are attached. It is not the “final” artwork; the Library will develop a draft and present it to stakeholder when all the funds are in place.
