Renew the Block Progress Update

Message from Amy Smith:
ReNew the Block is in full swing and moving forward in exciting phases! We've already knocked out 4 incredible community volunteer days, focusing on much-needed landscaping and some minor exterior repairs at homes within the project site. And guess what? We've got one last volunteer day lined up for October 14th, teaming up with Altra Federal Credit Union and Bimbo Bakery to wrap up all the landscaping on private properties!
The first phase of work on the school property is almost done, including some massive field projects, a brand-new walking trail, an outdoor classroom, and a large rain garden that Logan Middle School's 6th graders will be planting on September 10th and 11th. During this work students will also be diving into lessons on native plants and runoff pollution. Next up, we're kicking off work on the boulevards on the East side of Avon Street in late September, possibly early October. This phase will bring rain gardens, grade-level gardens, native plants, and trees to the area. We're planning one final volunteer day with Logan Middle School staff, students, and families to mulch and plant these boulevard spaces in late October or early November.
We are beyond thrilled to be completing such major phases of work on private properties, school property, AND city property. We want to keep this momentum going and invite you to a private screening on November 11th, of two amazing films focused on regenerative agriculture, Kiss the Ground and Common Ground. This private screening will also serve as an opportunity to showcase and fundraise for Habitat’s ReNew the Block project on Avon Street. We haven’t started promoting this event yet because we wanted to allow our ReNew partners and supporters first dibs on tickets. There is no charge for this event and the Rivoli only seats 300, so if this is something you’d like to be a part of, please reserve your seats ASAP.
